about

Welcome to Deathless. A place, or a human condition, you choose. The term is found in German seminal philosopher Hannah Arendt’s thinking, and it encapsulates a “coming of age”-record. Roaming the twilight zone of life, death and coffee vending machines. The eternal visible in the ephemeral, the grandeur found in the most simple aspects of life. Many a Dimpker Brothers’ lyric touches on large questions, and many of the works sprung from their already timely journey toward a musical place of their own are gathered here on the long awaited debut album.

Swedish brothers Martin and Adam Dimpker invite you to join the musical pilgrimage that takes place on their thoughtful debut Deathless. They travel and explore both landscapes and conversations. With each other, with the world and with the people they meet along the way. Aiming at finding their place, they capture some of their impressions from the journey in their songs.

Deathless was made in rural farms of eastern Småland, Sweden, by the Rocky Mountains of North America, on the British south coast, Northern Ireland and back in the Texas heat of SXSW festival and all the stages in between.

The duo began playing and touring together from as soon as they could hold guitars. They travelled throughout the world, collecting and creating their new songs. Adam and Martin Dimpker have found each other in the music they both love, a style rooted in American country. The connection now stretches to fans and friends across the globe.

In 2017 the duo befriended renowned American folk rocker Joshua James when he was on tour in Sweden. A recording session was started with James in his Utah studio but the collaboration didn’t end up in a finished album.

“It was a reality check for us. We started to understand what we needed to do to create music we truly believe in. So, we played even more, wrote even better songs and gave ourselves time to ground ourselves in our message.”

Especially formative were the band’s tours in Canada, among other things as supporting act for the charismatic blues pastor Reverend Sekou. Being open minded and curious beings, the Dimpker Brothers also made acquaintance with legendary country artist Jimmie Dale Gilmore, after meeting him on tour in Canada.

“Jimmie plays in cult band The Flatlanders, but perhaps he is best known for being death threatened in a bowling alley in ‘The Big Lebowski’. He lives with his wife Janet on a ranch outside of Texas, so when we played there in 2019, we got to stay with them. It feels good to have a 76 year old bestie in the Lone Star state.”

Martin and Adam are of German heritage, and the family have their own coat of arms as well as a “Dimpker room” in Lübeck city hall. But now the brothers have found their spot, in the southern Swedish village Hulta.

“Along the way, our relationship to Hulta has grown stronger. In our parents’ home, lots of people have come and gone, and we’ve always had musical instruments hanging on the walls. That’s where we belong.”

Deathless deals with that experience – the long journey, ending in finding a home in a whole new way. The wait is over, but the Dimpker Brothers journey continues.
